A note from your Instructor: Ken Wright
For Ken Wright, plants are more than a passion—they’re part of his roots. Growing up with parents who travelled to see wildflower blooms, Ken’s love for plants began early.
“My folks were always chasing the wildflowers,” Ken recalls. “I definitely inherited that same fascination.”
Ken pursued his interest by earning a Bachelor of Science in Botany from Montana State University, which blossomed into a full career. In 1988, he and his wife Pam opened Bow Point Nursery, which they ran successfully for 30 years.
In 2015, they founded Wright Nursery, a wholesale nursery focused on native, seed-sourced plugs and seedlings adapted to Alberta. “At Wright Nursery, we’re dedicated to plant selection, seed collection, and propagation of plants that thrive in southern and central Alberta,” says Ken. “We were the first nursery in Alberta to specialize in prairie hardy plants.”
These prairie hardy plants, Ken’s specialty, are uniquely resilient to Alberta’s intense climate. “With prairie hardy plants, customers can trust they’ll get hardy, beautiful plants that thrive here, year after year,” he explains.
